THE PURPOSE OF CREATION

Why were we created?

Tell the difference between useful goals and the purpose that guides your whole life.

THE BIG QUESTION

A project can fill your schedule without giving direction to your whole life.

What gives you direction?

There is no right or wrong answer here.

A personal goal can be useful. But by itself, it does not answer the question of your purpose.

SURAH ADH-DHARIYAT · 51:56–58

وَمَا خَلَقْتُ ٱلْجِنَّ وَٱلْإِنسَ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُونِ

And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me.

Adh-Dhariyat 51:56

مَآ أُرِيدُ مِنْهُم مِّن رِّزْقٍ وَمَآ أُرِيدُ أَن يُطْعِمُونِ

I do not want from them any provision, nor do I want them to feed Me.

Adh-Dhariyat 51:57

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلرَّزَّاقُ ذُو ٱلْقُوَّةِ ٱلْمَتِينُ

Indeed, it is Allāh who is the [continual] Provider, the firm possessor of strength.

Direction shapes the path without depending on social status.

Who is worship for?

عِبَادَة

ʿibāda · worship

In this lesson, this term names the purpose of creation: worshipping Allah.

Incomplete direction

  • Seeking only a spiritual feeling
  • Doing good without asking who is being worshipped

Clear direction

  • Devoting worship to Allah alone
  • Not associating anything with Allah in worship

A compass, not a required career

Fictional learning example: Lina thinks about her future.

  1. A tidy study desk with books, a closed laptop, and a pencil.

    A useful goal

Lina wants to finish her studies. This goal organizes part of her time.

  2. An orderly workbench holds a few tools and unfinished wooden pieces.

    A possible confusion

She sometimes thinks that only great career success will give her life value.

  3. A family table set for a simple meal in a warm room.

    A distinction

Studies and work are particular goals. Worshipping Allah gives a broader direction.

  4. One shared direction

This purpose guides her studies, work, and family life without requiring a specific career.

Religious purpose helps you examine your choices. It does not automatically turn every project into worship or set one unique profession.

Two levels not to confuse

A personal goal answers a limited question: what do you want to achieve? Purpose answers a broader question: what is your whole life directed toward?

Connect a goal to your direction

Choose a real goal, then place it under this purpose.

IN THREE QUESTIONS

Move from a goal to direction

  1. Name the goal Write down a study, work, or family-life project.
  2. Identify its benefit Say what this project can practically bring.
  3. Remember the purpose Ask how your choices can remain directed toward worshipping Allah alone.
